Domaine du Chalet Pouilly has always been respectful to the environment, minimizing any unnecessary intervention during the growing and ripening of the grapes. We always use caution and reason while protecting against pests and diseases of the vine. A recent initiative is being undertaken to abandon the use of weed killing chemicals by planting an underground clover for acid soils and alfalfa (Medicago sativ) for basic soils to stifle the weeds by natural means.
In our cellars, we have been very successful in maintaining the hygiene of our equipment such as tanks and barrels by solely using water steam-cleaning techniques. This makes it possible to completely avoid the need for cleaning chemicals that are potentially harmful to the environment.
All the above is very important to sustainability, but our business does not stop there. Domaine du Chalet Pouilly has committed to achieving goals related to biodiversity, phytosanitary strategy, management of fertilization as well as undertaking any other action necessary to become even more environmentally friendly; This is why we decided to become HVE certified (High Environmental Value) in 2020. HVE represents the highest level of certification for environmentally friendly wineries. In 2021 we proudly passed the audit carried out by a certifying body on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture of France and obtained the HVE certification. In 2019 we started transitioning towards organic farming and we expect to receive the certification in 2023.
