New Grades for Pouilly-Fuissé 2016

Domaine du Chalet Pouilly received 16.5/20 for the Pouilly-Fuissé 2016.

60-year-old vines, some planted way back in 1945, on limestone and clay soils. Matured in French oak barrels (12% new) for 18 months. Inviting aroma that suggests ripe fruit as well as a slight smoky and creamy quality from the oak aging. Beautifully balanced between the fruit and the oak, with a depth and length that is still so fresh. All really well integrated into a harmonious whole. A good introduction to white burgundy and although it is ready to drink now, there is no hurry. Well made. (JH)
